Death
Character death is inevitable.
Character death should not surprise you. Plan for it to happen. Most importantly, plan where it should happen.
If you get feared away from the group and aggress a group that mobs you, do not bring them back to the group.
They could overwhelm the group and cause everyone to die.
Instead move to a spot where:
- the creeps will not notice the party; and
- your corpse will be in Line-Of-Sight and within range of a druid who can resurrect you with magic.
If you have a Soulstone (Warlock buff) you can resurrect yourself.
While you are dying but still able to move, choose a place to die where:
- static creeps will not notice you when you resurrect; and
- patrolling creeps will not notice you when you resurrect; and
- the environment won't kill you when you resurrect (for example, there is no point using a Soulstone to resurrect if you died in lava).
When you resurrect:
- buff yourself quickly, if you're a druid;
- start eating and drinking to replenish health and mana;
- Shadowmeld to avoid detection by creeps while you eat and drink;
- help the rest of the party.
While standing in a spot where it's good to die, fight to the death.
- Focus on damaging one creep.
- If you have survival abilities such as Evasion, Stun, Bear form, etc. then use them.
- If you have potions that might help (Invisibility, Healing, etc.) then use them.
- Do not heal/buff your party members in the main battle: that will link your creeps to them.
Beware mods like SmartBuff that automatically buff party members when you use your mouse's scrollwheel.
- If you can take out one opponent, that will mitigate the damage you are taking and lessen the threat to the rest of the team.
- If you survive long enough, the team might have finished fighting the intentional battle and be able to join in your unintended battle to rescue you.
- If you survive long enough, your aggro-escape mechanism (Rogues have Vanish) may be off cooldown and allow you to escape combat.
